Blake Geoservices uses Solinst Leveloggers for Moray Estates project.

Our client Moray Estates Development Company approached us with an out of the ordinary development plan - to build a brand new loch!  The site investigation comprised of cable percussive boreholes to ascertain ground conditions and install groundwater monitoring wells.  The requirement to understand the groundwater conditions means a year long monitoring programme.  Solinst Leveloggers were installed and will record water levels for a year in all weather conditions.

Whats been happening at Blake Geoservices?  Quite a lot, we've been really busy!

The start of 2011 has been a great year for us, and we have been rushed off our feet keeping up with the demand.

At the start of the year we worked with Atkins to deliver a site investigation for the Huntly Flood Alleviation Scheme in Aberdeenshire.  Then we were kept busy doing small wind turbine sites at schools across the Highlands for Sangster Electrical Ltd.  This was followed by work for redevelopments of Orkney Islands Council schools and housing projects close to Inverness.

In April we completed our most logistically challenging site investigation to date for Hydroplan.  Situated some 8km into the hills south of Loch Awe, we had to use a 20ton excavator to position our DB51 rig at the work site across moorland and peat bogs.  The construction plan is to construct a dam to provide storage for the forthcoming hydro scheme.  The rig drilled a series of BHs to locate rockhead and search for suitable deposits for earth dam construction.

Currently we are kept busy with geotechnical testing and smaller environmental projects across the country.

Blake Geoservices on the radio!

Did you hear Chris on the radio last week?  Every week on the MFR afternoon show listeners are invited to guess the occupation of  a mystery person through a series of clues and sound effects.  Providing a sound effect for a geologist proved difficult but must have been convincing as a handful of listeners guessed correctly.

The clues were broadcast by the Knoxy (shown left) on her afternoon show quiz "Through the Keyhole".  Chris remarked "It makes a change from the usual Monday morning to get a call from Knoxy on my mobile, unfortunately she turned down my invitation for dinner".  The participation on the show adds to the increased media attention that Blake Geoservices has received in the past year.
